According to Joe:
We rolled into town at 5 PM just as our friend Ed was getting home from work. Ed used to live in Philly and played for the band Two Foot Tall Jerk, but moved to Madison WI and then moved to Hickory NC - which is "The Furniture Capitol of the World". Supposedly, the world's biggest chair is in Hickory. We did not see it.
Ed and his girlfriend were really nice to us. They made us a big pot of chili and rice which was out-of-this-world good. We ate and had some beers and watched a mini-performance of Ed's "Projectorcism" which is a multi-media visual experience involving 5 old 16 mm movie projectors suspended from a bar showing film simultaneously onto a sheet. Some projectors go on and off, some of the film is distored or re-reflected by compact discs acting as mirrors positioned in front of the lenses. It is rather overwhelming.
The show was at The Wizard Saloon - an old biker bar that has live music. Had we not gone with Ed we might have turned back. From the outside it did not look like a place for our kind of music. But the people there were super cool. We played with a duo that had a Spanish name. They were acoustic, theatrical, poetic and funny. I wish I could remember their name now. Another band opened up for them - they were kind of metal - kind of like Melvins and Electric Wizard - slow and thick. We played last and had a pretty good set. I didn't notice anyone leave.
