I finally watched '24 Hour Party People' and I promised a report in a post a long time ago. So here it is.

First of all, I liked the movie. But I hate the music it's about. Basically it's the story of how the Rave culture came about and blossomed in Manchester, England. And it revoloves around the life (and observations) of the narrator, Tony Wilson, a local TV reporter who helped polarize the Manchester music scene in the late 70s and 80s.

Despite the fact I don't like Rave culture or music, the movie held my attention. I never would have guessed that rave music can be traced directly back to the Sex Pistols! (Or to Joy Division for that matter.)

It's a stylish film - a self-aware faux documentary, well paced and witty. You won't be bored even if you don't like music at all. There are drugs (ecstacy and pot) and guns too. And sex on tour buses. There's even a U.F.O.

I give it a thumbs up.
